Always looking for new and broader ways to serve others, while expressing our gratitude for and commitment to our local communities,R4W has created a campaign called “Sewing Seeds.” As we all know, a seed on its own will never reproduce and bear a crop; it will forever remain a single seed. The more seeds are cultivated, the greater the harvest. In much the same way, R4W seeks partnerships with other organizations to expand our reach and increase our ability to meet existing community needs.
Community Centre
Our Women's Community Centre is the centre point for all of our programs. All proceeds from our bike rentals and all donations go into supporting the programs we offer at the centre.
As we begin 2011, we are enjoying great progress with the construction of our Women’s Community Centre which will be the women’s home away from home. This centre will include training rooms, a bicycle workshop, a day care centre, a dormitory for volunteers, a computer lab, an office, a kitchen, a counseling room, and an entertainment room. Outside, we are establishing garden areas. The large plot of land being leased to us at an affordable rate gives us ample room for the centre and all of these great programs inside and out.
Many women in this area are expert basket makers and are looking forward to training other women in this craft and demonstrating their skill at the centre. Once we have engaged new training programs we will look for ways the women can share their new skills and offer their products for sale at the centre to earn direct income.
Construction is underway with the first stage as shown here in early 2011:
