Learn to cook authentic dishes

Join us in the kitchen

At R4W you can learn how to cook traditional dishes of the Bakiga tribe. Wander through our gardens, pick and dig your choice of vegetables and herbs then set to work with the chef in our kitchen.

Buhoma in the beautiful Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - home to most of Uganda’s mountain gorillas - is a community steeped in tradition and culture.  Experience real Uganda by joining our very own R4W chef in his kitchen and cook:

Kalo Bread from locally grown millet.  You will use a milling stone to make the flour for the bread yourself; G-nut (groundnut) sauce – the favourite pink sauce found all over Uganda; Matoke (green banana) – prepare it, wrap it and watch it cook on the fire; Goat’s meat roasted then boiled; Irish potatoes (Imonda) and the local drink, Obushera, made from sorghum, millet, honey and water.

Cooking with us is a perfect way to spend a couple of spare hours around your gorilla trekking plans or if you are not trekking why not spend more time with us and learn to Dance, Weave or Sew?

DURATION:

2 Hours

INCLUDES:

  • Enjoying all of the delicious food you have prepared yourself, in the beautiful new dining room of Ride 4 a Woman

Learning to cook traditional Ugandan dishes was such a unique experience. Eating what you have produced together with the R4W team surrounded by the misty hills of Bwindi was simply amazing.
